Not all adhesives are the same. All non-metallic process materials that connect two moulded parts conclusively by surface hardening are referred to as adhesives. It is therefore a joining process which brings about adhesion between two material surfaces of different or the same material composition by means of adhesion. The curing of construction adhesives, the so-called cohesion, is equally important. In terms of material technology, therefore, the adhesive material must not only be subjected to its own material testing, but must also be suitable in terms of its use.

The subdivision of adhesives can be made on the basis of their physical/chemical properties on the one hand, and on the other hand on the basis of their fields of application. A distinction is made between the so-called physically setting adhesives and the chemically hardening adhesives as well as the pressure sensitive adhesives. The latter include, for example, all forms of adhesive tapes. The contact adhesive presented here, on the other hand, belongs to the group of physically setting adhesives. These are polymers dissolved in solvents, whose processing requires a certain minimum drying time. For quality assurance purposes, the brand manufacturer WICANDERS® has subjected the contact adhesive for cork flooring to standardized test procedures and test specimens, which are anchored in the standards and guidelines of the Industrieverband Klebstoffe e.V.

This also takes into account the application of the product at hand, which should be carried out strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. For this purpose, the TKB data sheet 6 of the Technical Commission for Construction Adhesives is consulted and implemented accordingly. Since contact adhesives, such as the present Latex W-240 contact adhesive, require product-specific processing times, the contact pressure during flooring installation and the minimum drying time must be observed. The application of the adhesive should accordingly follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Cork is a renewable natural raw material made from the bark of the cork oak. The easy-care floor covering is breathable, quiet and warm. The porous flooring has insulating and cushioning properties that are warm to the feet and healthy in the living room atmosphere. In order for this to succeed and for the cork flooring to be placed firmly and stably on the flat surface, a suitable and tested adhesive should be chosen that perfectly develops its adhesive power between the screed and the floor covering.

WICANDERS® contact adhesive for cork flooring meets all the technical testing requirements stipulated by the Bundesverband Estrich und Belag e.V. (German Federal Association for Screeds and Coverings) and the Technische Kommission Bauklebstoffe (Technical Commission for Construction Adhesives) for floors of this type. The high-performance adhesive, which is supplied in a 5 kg bucket, is applied evenly and in a predefined manner via toothed strip, toothed trowel or toothed spatula in order to avoid air pockets and thus predetermined breaking points after drying. The cork floor, which is ideally suited for interior design, is thus wetted with the adhesive over the entire surface, while the adhesive consumption is 250 grams per square metre. Here it should be taken into account that contact adhesives are usually applied to both surfaces of the material available. Here it is necessary to strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions. In order to maintain the quality of the cork organic flooring for a long time, preparation is required accordingly. The result, however, can be seen and a cork floor creates a feeling of cosiness made to measure.
