What does oak limed mean?Whitewashing is a treatment of the wood surface that emphasizes the grain and structure of the wood. Here the light-dark effect between closed and porous areas of the wood is exploited. For this purpose the oak wood was originally treated with a lime solution. This gave the oak the typical grey-brown colour. After drying, the wood was thoroughly rubbed off. A whitish lime residue remained in the pores. Today, this effect is achieved by applying a primer followed by a whitish paste. This also settles in the pores after wiping the wood.When do you need footfall sound insulation or a vapour barrier?You will always need a vapour barrier if you lay the parquet on screed, ceramic tiles or underfloor heating. This vapour barrier, also called moisture barrier, consists of a thin PE film. It prevents the moisture absorption of the parquet from the subfloor. If, on the other hand, you want to lay the parquet on chipboard or dry wooden planks, you must not apply a vapour barrier to prevent these surfaces from becoming mouldy.Impact sound insulation is always required when the parquet is laid in a floating manner. The air space between the parquet and the subfloor acts as a resonance body for the impact sound, which amplifies it. Impact sound is the sound that is transmitted through the floor or walls into other rooms. If the parquet is glued over the entire surface, this resonance space effect is eliminated. Impact sound insulation is therefore usually not necessary in this case. | |
